Our story
A decade guiding players on Smith Street
From a single co-op night above a Fitzroy cafe to a full biophilic studio, we have grown alongside Melbourne’s vibrant gaming community—one campaign, tournament, and living-wall workshop at a time.
- 2016
The first game night
Founders Priya and Dan hosted a 12-player strategy night above a Brunswick Street cafe, publishing their first free guide the very next morning.
- 2018
The Smith Street studio
We opened our permanent home at 89 Smith Street, filling it with living-wall greenery, exposed timber, and eight dedicated playtesting tables.
- 2021
Guides go virtual
Our digital library crossed 500 in-depth guides and we launched live online coaching for players from Perth to Cairns.
- 2024
4,200 members strong
The VirtualPlayGuide community passed 4,200 active members, hosting weekly ranked ladders and quarterly design jams in the studio.

Frequently asked questions
Casual drop-ins are welcome during opening hours, but tables fill quickly on Friday nights. We recommend reserving a table through the contact form or by phone at least a day ahead so we can seat your whole group together.
Both. Our library spans virtual titles, deckbuilders, and classic tabletop strategy. Every guide is tagged by platform and difficulty, and our coaches specialise across the full range so you can mix and match.
Beginners are the heart of our community. Explorer membership is free, our Junior Players Weekend is built for newcomers, and coaches always start with fundamentals before any competitive coaching.
Yes. We host team nights, birthdays, and studio hire under the living wall for up to 40 people. Reach out with your date and group size and we will tailor a session, including catering options from Smith Street cafes nearby.
You can switch or cancel any plan at any time with no lock-in contract. Changes take effect from your next monthly billing date, and downgrades keep full access until that date arrives.
